Keep the commute short and sweet

Manchester commuters are willing to commute an average of 23 minutes to work

Commute-hating Brits would be willing to travel for no more than 1 hour 14 minutes, even for their dream job.

A survey of 1,002 UK adults, carried out by AllCarLeasing.co.uk, found that Londoners are willing to endure the longest commute at an hour and a half, meanwhile, Manchester residents would be willing to commute just 23 minutes each day.

Top 10 things that annoy commuters the most on their journey to work:

1] Traffic (63%)
2] Not letting people off the bus/tube/train before getting on (58%)
3] Playing loud music or calls on speaker phone (55%)
4] Not standing to right on escalators (51%)
5] Feet or bags on spare seats (49%)
6] Roadworks and diversions (48%)
7] People who don’t have travel cards or payment ready for public transport (42%)
8] Eating smelly food on public transport (40%)
9] Small talk with strangers (37%)
10] Cyclists (28%)

When quizzed on the things that made commuting frustrating or annoying, Brits admitted that getting stuck in traffic infuriated them the most (63%).

Other passengers not letting others off public transport before getting on (58%) and people playing loud music (55%) took the top three spots.

Not standing to the right on escalators enraged 51% of commuters and talking up spare seats with feet or bags was found to be a big annoyance for 49%.

James Buttrick, e-commerce manager at All Car Leasing said: “It’s surprising to see that on average Brits are only willing to travel for up to an hour and 14 minutes for an ideal job role. There are often many factors that make the commute to work stressful and unpleasant. Commuting doesn’t have to be stressful and should allow workers to prepare for the day ahead or wind-down after a full on day.

“Previous studies have proved that there is a positive relationship between a shorter commute and wellbeing for UK workers.”

Men are willing to travel up to 1 hour and 29 minutes to work in contrast to women who would prefer to travel for 59 minutes.
