‘Pop-up GLA’ – on the road

Chief Executive Paul Broadbent will hit the road next year to host a series of events where he will field questions

Chief Executive Paul Broadbent will hit the road next year to host a series of events where he will field questions about the GLA from all-comers. The authority will host 10 ‘Pop-up Seminars’ between January and April next year, each allowing local attendees to seek guidance or clarification on concerns or issues they may have.

In attendance at each of the free events – listed below – will be the chief executive and a GLA inspector plus either GLA Chair Margaret Beels or another board member.

Mr Broadbent said:

“We always endeavour to speak to, and more importantly listen to, all those who we work with.

“We also recognise that distance and time are important issues, hence, by arranging local events, we hope to reach out and engage with those that can’t make other stakeholder meetings we hold.

“These events will be open to all, providing direct access to t he GLA – from the governance team through to officers who work in the field.”

Mr Broadbent said the specific groups he was hoping would attend included; workers, labour providers, labour users, retailers and trade unions.

Possible subjects for discussion are:

  • Workers’ rights
  • The GLA licensing scheme
  • Complying with UK tax law
  • Holiday pay
  • Providing worker transport and accommodation
  • Emerging trends of exploitative practices
  • Using umbrella companies
  • Anything else …

A full list of the dates, times and venues can be found below. Capacity is restricted at some locations and advance booking is essential. Places can be reserved by emailing names of attendees and preferred venue to popup.events@gla.gsi.gov.uk.
