Teaching the Nation – Education Jobs Rise 27%

However, Job Application Rates Fail to Maintain the Same Pace

Statistics fromCV-Library, the UK’s leading independent job board, have today revealed that whilst 2015 has seen a significant rise in education jobs, application rates have failed to maintain the same growth, drastically reducing candidate choice for businesses.

Recent data from the job site’s database indicate that the education industry has the third most vacancies when compared to other UK sectors. Furthermore, the figures reveal that job postings in the education sector have risen by 27% in the last year. Over 11,685 roles were posted in the last 12 months, compared to 9,205 in the same period the previous year, resulting in an extra 2,480 jobs in the sector since June 2014.

The number of job hunters applying for roles in the sector also increased last year, seeing a growth of 5.4%. However, these rates fall behind industry job growth, resulting in an overall deficit of 17% in terms of the number of applications per role.

This is concerning news for the industry. Whilst an employer in the sector could expect to receive 6.98 candidates per role in June 2014, comparable data for June 2015 shows that this number has reduced to 5.8, meaning education institutions have less choice during the selection process.

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, explains: “Our latest data demonstrates that the education sector needs to be savvier at attracting new talent. With jobs on the rise, applicants can afford to be more selective in their job search. This, combined with concerns surrounding skills gaps, means education institutions have a bigger challenge on their hands.”

The good news is CV-Library has over 359,147 job hunters seeking work in education, meaning there are plenty of candidates available to fill roles.
