Jobcentre PlusNew data reveals how the British jobs market has avoided the traditional ‘Summer Slowdown’ this year, seeing an overall rise of 27.7% last month, compared to June 2015.
The period prior to this (June 15 vs May 15) also saw growth of 6.1%. However, recent figures indicate that the rise in jobs is picking up speed as we head into the peak of Summer, with July’s growth swamping June’s by 354%.
The findings come from the UK’s largest job board, CV-Library and are positively unexpected for the time of year.
Lee Biggins, managing director of the job site explains:
“Traditionally, the recruitment sector experiences a slowdown during the summer months, which is mainly due to school holidays and annual leave. The fact that we have seen such strong growth between June and July this year is encouraging news for both the jobs sector and the economy.”
Furthermore, comparing UK jobs in July 2015 to July 2014 reveals a year-on-year rise of 45.6%. This growth is reflected in a number of the UK’s key cities, with three of the top 10 exceeding the nation’s average growth rates:
- Edinburgh – 56.8%
- Hull – 49%
- Liverpool – 48.8%
- Manchester – 40.5%
- Birmingham – 36.8%
- London – 36.3%
- Portsmouth – 36.3%
- Cardiff – 35.6%
- Leeds – 34.6%
- Bristol – 27.1%
Biggins concludes:
“This data is very promising, especially following last week’s concerns regarding the increase of unemployment rates in the UK. There are jobs out there for the taking and proactive job-hunters should be able to benefit from this continued growth.”
