An IT company from America is to create up to 100 new jobs in Northern Ireland, the company have announced.

The software engineering company, Puppet Labs, has announced its plan to launch an operation in Belfast over the next three years.

The company is used by global companies such as Twitter, eBay and PayPal and the Northern Ireland operation is expected be start of a plan for the company to expand into the Middle East and Europe.

The Northern Ireland Assembly’s Enterprise Trade and Investment Minister, Arlene Foster described the investment as a significant boost.

She said:  “The arrival of Puppet Labs in Northern Ireland is a further boost to our already strong ICT sector, which is playing a significant role in growing the local economy. They are an innovative company who are committed to product research and development.

“Once filled, these posts will collectively deliver annual salaries of over £3.7 million to the local economy.”

£1 million towards the creation of the new jobs has been contributed by Invest Northern Ireland.

Luke Kanies, the chief executive and founder of Puppet Labs, said the move was part of his company’s plan expansion plan.

He added: “Puppet Labs has been growing rapidly as IT automation is critical for any company that uses technology to compete. This new centre will expand our engineering capacity to support our plans for growth, particularly in the European and Middle Eastern markets.

“Northern Ireland has strong software engineering talent and offers quality and cost advantages to support our growth.”
