5,600 new jobs are forecast to be created by North Lincolnshire Council across two development sites.
£150 million in direct investment to North Lincolnshire, along with the creation of new jobs, will be brought to the Humberside Airport and a Logistics Park in North Killingholme – the local authority.
The largest Enterprise Zone (EZ) in the UK has just got bigger with an extension of the Able Marine Energy Park EZ in North Lincolnshire.
Work is nearing completion on getting the first 716 acres of the 1,230-acre site ready to attract new businesses to the area at North Killingholme.
Finishing touches to the project will include transport depots, warehousing, external storage areas, offices, a business park and a hotel – with the business park having full planning permission.
EZ status will mean businesses based at the Logistics Park can reclaim 100 percent tax back on building, equipment and machinery costs, with the business park at Humberside Airport set to become an EZ for the first time.
The site has attracted companies such as Hilton Hotel, BAE Systems and the extension of Nightel.
Councillor Rob Waltham, Deputy Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: “Having Enterprise Zone status presents some fantastic opportunities to businesses and will be a major draw in attracting new companies to the area. The council has worked hard to pull more businesses into North Lincolnshire and continues to do so. These are huge levels of investment in North Lincolnshire that will create thousands of jobs.
‘North Lincolnshire is on the cusp of becoming the business capital of the Humber sub-region with all the major investment taking place – the £1.2bn Lincolnshire Lakes development, the £5m new training academy at Humberside Airport, the £20m Scunthorpe town centre regeneration package that includes the region’s first Humber UTC, and much more.
‘The Logistics and Marine Energy Park together will create around 10,000 jobs. It is set to be Europe’s leader in renewable energy.
‘Humberside Airport is a fast growing airport and is attractive to new businesses wanting a prime location to operate from. There’s been some key investment at the Airport recently, and it is hoped more businesses will follow suit.
‘Providing incentives to attract businesses is good for the area. It creates job and training opportunities. It demonstrates not only the government’s commitment to business growth, but shows potential businesses that North Lincolnshire is an attractive place to invest with a lot to offer.”
Managing Director of Humberside Airport, Deborah Zost, added: “We are delighted with the news and are confident that this will encourage new businesses to Humberside. The Airport’s location has been a key driver for businesses in the past and this development will provide a further incentive. Humberside has flights with worldwide connections and is in close proximity to the motorway network, making the airport an ideal location.”
