Event: Taking your recruitment company to the next level

The IOR event at which James Caan was helping recruiters to grow their businesses.

Last Wednesday Irwin Mitchell kindly hosted us at their London office in Holborn for the ‘Taking your recruitment company to the next level’ event. This evening was also in partnership with The Institute of Recruiters, IOR and aimed at discussing how to scale a recruitment business. James Caan opened by discussing his journey from a broom cupboard to multimillion pound empire and the issues he faced when building his portfolio of companies. James talked about what truly makes a business an asset and the common mistakes people make along the way.

The evening then moved on to a presentation from co-founder and COO of Recruitment Entrepreneur Amy Golding and CEO Ryan Cleland-Bogle. They discussed the many challenges people face when starting out alone with particular emphasis on talent attraction, creating a culture of success and mix of business.

After this there was a question and answer session where Amy, Ryan and James were joined by Geoffrey Lander and Chris Tutton from Irwin Mitchell. The panel discussed a variety of topics including how to attract experienced hires and the pitfalls and benefits of offering them equity to bring them on board. There was debate over whether temp or perm was the way to go for a startup business and the advantages of being a true industry specialist when breaking down the door to big clients. Geoffrey and Chris were able to bring their experience in business, and knowledge of employment law, to explain the areas people most often compromise on, and later regret, when building their company.

It was great to see so many people engaged and openly share their experiences about how to build a successful company. Recruitment Entrepreneur would like to thank Irwin Mitchell and The Institute of Recruiters for organising the event and we look forward to working together again in the future.

We are hoping this will be the first in a series of events; if you have any suggestions for topics you would like to discuss or if you would like to be involved then please contact us. For more information go to http://www.recruitmententrepreneur.com
