IKEA hosts recruitment event with up to 350 jobs on offer

IKEA hosted a recruitment fair last Thursday ahead of its new Exeter store opening, due to complete next summer

IKEA has been a principal partner of the Living Wage Foundation since April 2016, meaning all of its co-workers receive a living wage. The furniture giant recruited for up to 350 positions including roles in sales, warehouse, restaurant, interior design and customer services.

Nick Earle, Exeter Store manager, told Devon Live: “This is an extremely exciting day for not only IKEA but also for the people of Exeter who have been incredibly supportive ahead of our official arrival next year.

“We are keen to speak with as many people as possible who are interested in a career with IKEA. No previous retail experience required, just an empathy for people, a drive to do a good job, a good heart and a passion for home furnishings.”

Matt Johnson who will be working at IKEA Exeter as Deputy Sales manager, told Devon Live:

“I began my journey at IKEA in 2007 when I was just 18 years old. I joined the Southampton store build as Checkout Team Leader, which was my first step into management and I have always appreciated IKEA taking that chance on me and giving me that opportunity at such a young age.

“Having welcomed customers through the cash lanes I moved into sales as Textiles Team Leader. From there I joined the Next Step management programme and within six months I was promoted to Home Organisation manager aged 19. I was very proud to hold this responsibility and to develop into a leader through the store.

“Since then I have undertaken many roles. Most recently I have worked as the Commercial Activity Manager in Croydon where I was also nominated to join the Next Generation programme in the UK, a group which is to develop the next store management team. I am immensely proud to now be recruited as the Deputy Sales Manager for Exeter and bring IKEA to a whole new group of customers again.”

“I would strongly recommend IKEA as an employer. It creates an environment where everyone is respectful, humble and genuinely wants to improve the lives of our customers – which to me is very special.

“My advice to anyone wanting to work for IKEA is to come along on the 19 – and be yourself. We want to work with genuine people who share our values and passion for interiors. IKEA has a strong sense of togetherness – where people can be supported as part of a team while truly being themselves.
