Advertised with an annual salary of £17,778 and offering a 15% employer contribution pension scheme, Buckingham Palace is looking for a new linen keeper to join the Master of the Household’s Office.
As this is a live-in position, the role will see you residing and working in one of the world’s most beautiful historic settings and will suit someone with exceptional attention to detail, great communication skills and experience in supervising teams.
The successful candidate will be in charge of maintaining the linen used for events and royal functions in addition to the day-to-day bedsheets and tablecloths. It is worth remembering that many of the pieces of fabric that the linen keeper will be handling are irreplaceable and of historical significance; therefore, it is doubtful that keeping the linen in tip-top condition involves merely shoving them in the washer dryer and giving them a quick steam press!
If you do not think you have the experience required to make a successful application, fear not. Buckingham Palace has a number of other job openings that might be more up your street; for example, you could start out as a kitchen porter. This role requires no previous experience and offers the opportunity to develop your catering skills in an amazing environment.
Alternatively, if you are more comfortable in an administrative or office-based position, you may want to consider applying for an office assistant role working within the Privy Purse and Treasurer’s Office. Although this is a fixed-term contract ending in September 2017, this role will give you a broad spectrum of experience. This position will suit you if you have good MS office skills and you enjoying working as part of a team; most importantly, you will be proactive and enthusiastic and able to use your own initiative to get the job done.
