Parcel firm Delivering Almost 100 New Jobs to the Potteries

The move will create over 90 jobs and safeguard another 100 who will switch from a site in Newcastle.

The parcel firm DPD is set to move from Newcastle to a new distribution centre in Stoke.

The planned move will create over 90 jobs and safeguard the futures of another 100 workers who will switch from an existing site in Newcastle

Plans have been lodged to build a new warehouse which should open next year and will replace DPD’s centre in Newcastle and safeguard 100 existing jobs.

The jobs boost for the area comes as DPD has announced a £75 million investment across all its Depots in the UK.

A DPD spokesman added: “These plans are part of DPD’s ongoing investment in the UK to expand our network and parcel capacity. We are continuing to grow as a result of increased demand for our services.”

DPD employs more than 7,000 people in the UK from over 50 locations and delivers 1.6 million parcels per week.

Part of the planning application states: “The new warehouse will allow DPD to expand its UK network and deliver jobs and investment in the local area.

“The development will contribute significantly to local job creation, both in the short term during the construction phase and in the long term due to the operational requirements of the business which will require 24-hour operation.”

Political Leaders in the area have welcomed the planned jobs boost.

The MP for Stoke-on-Trent Central, Tristram Hunt, said: “It’s great news to see further investment coming into Stoke-on-Trent”

“Our challenge as a city is to combat unemployment and low-wage jobs.”
