Already an established aviation hub and local employer, thanks to having landed some exciting and lucrative new contracts from several sources, Belfast International Airport is expanding rapidly, and this means that it is looking for around 100 new staff members to fill a wide variety of new roles being created.
Belfast International Airport is in action 24 hour a day, every single day of the year, processing around 6 million passengers with the support of 200+ airport staff, and over 4,000 workers who offer additional services to the travelling public. However, this airport is not content to rest on its laurels, and instead, there are plans afoot to add another 100 employees – a decision based on serious need, as the services offered from the airport continue to grow in popularity.
A wide variety of roles need to be filled
The new positions are available in a range of airport departments, with opportunities open to join the security team, take up a taxi driving post, work in retail, or catering, or pursue a behind the scenes role in aircraft management. These new jobs are offered both by the airport management team directly, as well as by some of the businesses which currently operate on site. These include a large number of new jobs from Swissport, the company responsible for managing the airport’s ground services, and ICTS, who provide airport security services, as well as front-facing roles such as passenger check-in.
The circumstances which have fuelled the creation of these new roles
An airport which is open 24 hours a day has lots of potential for growth and development, and Belfast International hasn’t been slow in taking up potential opportunities. But to be successful, an expansion of services depends on having enough staff to both offer and manage them. Consequently, there have been substantial investments made by companies currently on-site, in both airline and peripheral services.
Every new route or flight added to what Belfast International Airport offers creates the need for a wide range of services, from baggage handling to cafés and restaurants which provide a space for both weary and excited travellers at either end of their journey. Considering that plans for the airport include greatly increasing the number of passengers processed every year, the chances are that this recruitment drive is just the first of many to come.
