The Chartered Management Institute has recently conducted a report entitled ‘The quality of working life’, outlining the influence of technology on employees’ working hours.
Their key findings show that 61% of managers say that technology has made it difficult to switch off from work. Approximately one in five managers say they constantly check their email outside of working hours; with over half (54%) checking frequently. This is particularly common among those in senior management positions. Although not thought to be a negative aspect by all managers, constant email accessibility and digital connectivity do mean relatively longer working hours for some.
