Recruitment firm Hays has revealed which industries will experience the highest increases in its annual wages, with the transport and public sector receiving the lowest predicted change. The survey includes nearly 3000 different organisations with over 3 million workers.
Advertising, IT and media workers can expect the highest growth in their wages, while the transport and public sector workers can expect minor change.
IT workers are set for the greatest increase among Australian workers with 48% of the industry to receive a greater than 3% increase.
Highest wage increases by industry:
IT: 48% of industry to experience 3% or greater
Advertising and Media: 42% of industry to experience 3% or greater
Construction, Property and Engineering: 34% of industry to experience 3% or greater
‘Technology skills, which have always been hard to find, are critical in our digital economy and employers are acknowledging this by doing what they can to ensure relevant skills are retained in the long run,’ the annual Hays survey says.
Lowest wage increases by industry:
Public Sector: 11% of industry to experience 3% or more
Mining and Resources: 15% of industry to experience 3% or more
Transport and Distribution: 13% of industry to experience 3% or more
Advertising and media workers are also in store for good increases, with 42% to receive a minimum 3% pay rise.
At the other end of the spectrum, transport and public sector personnel are facing stagnant growth with little change expected.
