More than a quarter of the latest technology jobs are being advertised in cities outside of London, according to research from Experis.
The new quarterly survey analysed over 54,000 UK IT jobs advertised between October and December 2014. It reveals that Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Glasgow and Manchester are among the tech hotspots outside London and account for over 11,000 jobs, with skills in mobile, cloud and web development high in demand.
Salaries are lower outside the capital, with the average salary for every technology discipline being £51,588 for permanent roles, compared to Cambridge (£40,994), Birmingham (£39,733) and Glasgow (£39,143)
Managing director at Experis Europe, Geoff Smith, said: “There are strong indications to suggest that tech job opportunities are on the rise throughout the UK. We’re seeing an increasing number of London-based companies establishing remote working centres. They are ensuring their hunt for IT skills don’t miss out on talent that sees more appeal in the quality of life outside the capital – this could be one of the factors driving this shift.”
The report also reveals that mobile and web development skills are in highest demand across the UK – accounting for two-thirds of roles advertised. Roles requiring big data skills were, by contrast, scarcer with only 8 percent of the total roles advertised requiring the skill. However, these jobs commanded the highest salaries
