The annual list of the best places to work in the UK by employer review site Glassdoor has been released – with travel company Expedia coming out on top.
Staff at the travel company revealed that the firm had a ‘strong, friendly work culture’ where work-life balance was vital to all. Expedia has sailed up the UK rankings – coming 25th last year – as well as featuring on the US list in a healthy 16th place.
Glassdoor’s list of employees’ favoured workplaces across the globe highlight winners in the UK, US, Canada, France and Germany.
In the Top 25 the UK has a strong showing, with four technology companies, three banks and three retail companies. Fifteen of the companies in the list are newly-ranked this year.
Google – ranked at the top last year – fell to number 8, with other employers in the Top 10 including Hays, GE and Oxfam.
In the US list of companies to work for (employers with more than 1,000 staff), the Top 3 ranked companies were Airbnb, Bain & Company and Guidewire.
The awards are based on employee feedback shared via the site during the past year – using an algorithm to review their quality, consistency and quantity.
The Senior Vice-President of Expedia Retail, Gary Morrison, said ranking top of the list was a ‘true honour’.
He told Personnel Today: “The fact that we moved from number 25 to number 1 on Glassdoor’s list in a single year is a major achievement. Our employees are passionate about travel and are relentless in finding innovative ways to improve our customers’ experience. This recognition is a testament to them.”
