A notable addition to the 2017/18 rankings is television broadcasting company, Channel 4. Entering the list at an impressive fifth place, the majority of the previous top 10 names have moved down a place to accommodate the new arrival.
Channel 4’s entry is a result of its new ‘4Talent’ scheme, which offers a wide range of opportunities such as events and workshops as well as specific work programmes. This drive to nurture early talent in the industry helps make the employer highly popular with undergraduates.
Google and Cancer Research UK continue to hold on to the first and second spot, while GlaxoSmithKline and Microsoft rose up just one place, showing that the top employers in 2016 are still just as popular this year. The top 10 graduate employers are as follows:
1. Google
2. Cancer Research UK
3. GlaxoSmithKline
4. MI6 – Secret Intelligence Service
5. Channel 4 Television
6. British Airways
7. Microsoft
8. Amazon
9. MI5 – The Security Service
10. Jaguar Land Rover
Other significant new entries this year include law firms, Gowling WLG, BLM, Squire Patton Boggs and DAC Beachcroft, evidencing graduate legal careers as an appealing and increasingly accessible line of work for students across the UK. Other new organisations listed include FDM, Interserve and Royal Mail Group – a great achievement for all.
The results stem from the UK’s largest independent student survey, conducted by research firm, trendence UK, and is a highly beneficial tool for both employers and those reaching the end of their studies. The full list of the 300 most popular graduate employers in the UK, including rankings by sector, gender and year of study, will be published in The Guardian UK 300 later this year, and 100,000 copies will be distributed to students at leading UK universities.
