It’s no secret that the gender gap in the technology is incredibly high and there are no signs of it closing any time soon. It is crucial for many reasons that we incentivise employers to encourage more women into technology careers.
WomeninTech is a site dedicated to help women to start a career in technology and to inspire those already in the sector. In March 2018, the Women in Tech Employer Awards were launched.
The aim of the awards is to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary and much-needed work that these companies are doing to help close the gender gap in technology. The awards were judged by Steph McGovern from BBC Breakfast, Debbie Forster, CEO of the Tech Talent Charter and Charlotte Attwood, Head of Women in Tech.
The categories for the awards were as follows: Female Tech Employer of the Year, Female Graduate Employer of the Year, Women in Tech Network of the Year, Recruitment Campaign of the Year and Recruitment Agency of the Year.
The winners of the 2018 awards were: Sparta Global, Thoughtworks, STEM Women, Salt Digital Recruitment and CA Technologies. Thoughtworks, a Global Technology Consultancy, claimed the main prize of Female Tech Employer of the Year 2018.
Charlotte Attwood, Head of Women in Tech believes a lot more companies in the technology sector are working harder to close the gender gap. “While there is still a long way to close the gender gap in the UK technology sector, there are a number of companies who are leading the way in encouraging women to enter the industry. It is essential that we recognise and encourage the incredible work many employers are doing to encourage greater gender diversity in IT”.
