New TV show, The Job Interview, films every detail of the job interview with real candidates

The Channel 4 programme shows everything from the handshake to the job offer

If you thought watching First Dates was awkward then try watching this new show, The Job Interview.  Using multiple cameras, the show reveals in detail the terror and triumph of real-life interviews, highlighting every aspect from the handshake to a potentially life-changing job offer.

In the first episode, boss of Low Cost Vans, Rod Lloyd, features in the show and described the filming process as “fantastic”, saying, “Filming the show has been a fantastic experience for us and we also met some great candidates as a result.

“We learned a lot as a company, which we will take forward when recruiting in the future for the business.”

Filming began in March, featuring two jobs on offer in each episode, from a variety of businesses across the UK.

In the first episode, Low Cost Vans bosses Rod and HR Manager Lorraine are interviewing for a customer service advisor.

They’ve selected an eclectic mix of candidates. There’s Jody, who’s 34 and terrified as she hasn’t interviewed in 12 years, while Ian, who’s 51, wants to turn his life around since he was made redundant.

Others who are anxious for this position include a haunted house tour guide, an over-enthusiastic PA and a charismatic product demonstrator.

Meanwhile, Philippa D’Arcy and her daughter Bertie from Berkshire are turning their luxury family home, Wickham House, into an exclusive wedding and events venue. They’re searching for an assistant manager who is ‘a jack of all trades and a master of them all!’

Potential candidates include Amy, who’s 33 and ‘dreams of working in the big house’ and graduate Isabel, who’s 22 and has socialised with the likes of dukes and princesses.

As with every job on offer in The Job Interview, only one candidate can be successful and be offered each job.

The Job Interview has five episodes and airs on Channel 4 on Tuesdays at 9pm.
