London-based family is offering £60,000 salary for tutor to join them on 12-month gap year

Could this be the most sought-after job in the UK?

A London-based French family are planning a 12-month gap year across Australia, Asia, Europe and North America and are offering a tutor the job of a lifetime too! The family are offering a £60,000 salary for the tutor to join them on the trip and home-school their two sons.

The job posting, advertised on the online platform of agency Tutor House, states that an experienced tutor is required, ideally French speaking, who can teach two boys, aged six and nine, an array of subjects while the family explores the world.

As well as a generous salary, the chosen applicant will receive free travel and accommodation in their employment package, as the family plans to jet off to far-flung destinations. The tutor will also be given full sick pay entitlements and 24 days of holiday.

During their time off, the lucky educator will be able to participate in the family’s adventurous itinerary, which includes snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, visiting an elephant sanctuary in Thailand and holidaying at Disney World, Florida.

Candidates are required to have tutoring experience and be prepared to work up to 35 hours a week, including time for lesson planning. As the boys are of different ages, the family has stated the tutor will need to split teaching time evenly in half each day to accommodate the students’ learning levels.

The family aims to have selected their ideal candidate by the end of July, in preparation for the start of their trip in October 2019.

Alex Dyer, founder at TutorHouse.co.uk, said: “We sometimes receive quirky requests, but this is one of a kind and definitely something we haven’t seen before. As a former teacher, it makes me very happy to see that the family are still putting their kids’ educational needs first [while] they go on their once-in-a-lifetime adventure.”
