The money is hoped to be used to expand the business and buy additional premises, which will lead to more jobs.

The executive chairman of the firm, David Rose, said: “We are excited that we have been selected to receive this funding.

“It will enable further development of our business, contributing to the acquisition of additional premises and the creation of over 100 new jobs in North Tyneside within three years.”

The expansion of Fuda-Hobart Rose has taken the soft furnishings manufacturer into the design and manufacture of occasional furniture including sofas, chairs and accessories for its customer base of major retailers.

Rose added: “We decided to investigate extending our product range into occasional furniture, an alternative segment in the Home Decor market.

“This led to a proposal to the Regional Growth Fund to set up a factory creating employment in an Assisted Area.”

Bill Carrahar, chief executive of the furniture division to help lead the new section, said: “Since 2009 there has developed a groundswell of opinion in favour of home manufactured product.

“In addition, consumer choice has moved away from mass produced imports, towards a wider choice of styles and fabric options.

“In signalling a move into furniture it is evident that the opportunity to establish a state of the art manufacturing facility is real and sustainable for Hobart Rose.”

Skilled operatives have commenced employment with a training school for furniture making, frame makers, upholsterers and sewing machinists, which will open shortly.

The project has been fully supported by North Tyneside Council.

Paul Buie, head of business and economic development at the council, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to assist Fuda-Hobart Rose in both its successful bid for the funding and helping them to establish this wonderful new division of its business.

“As well as this being good news for the company, the investment also means they are able to employ more local people, which is fantastic, and also boosts the local economy.

“North Tyneside has a fast growing and dynamic business community and it’s great we have another success story in the borough.”
