By Gill Buchanan, founding director, Pure Resourcing Solutions

Average salaries among the majority of HR professionals located in Essex and Cambridgeshire have increased considerably between 2014 and 2016, according to a new report from Compare My Salary.co.uk, owned by recruitment firm, Pure.

The data from Compare My Salary spans average salaries for HR Administrator, HR Assistant, HR Officer/Advisor and HR Business Partner positions across Cambridgeshire and Essex, with those working in the most senior roles experiencing the biggest wage growth in the last two years.

Gill Buchanan, director, Pure, said:

“With employee engagement and talent management increasingly near the top of the agenda for business owners, there is considerably greater responsibility on human resource departments to ensure staff feel valued.

“For many employees, beyond overall pay, a solid work-life balance and the ability to work flexibly is important to them. Ambitious, talented professionals also want to feel there is a pathway to progression as part of their new role.”

An attractive salary also goes hand-in-hand with a solid work-life balance. HR Officer/Advisor salaries are up from £28,000 to £32,000 in Cambridgeshire and £27,500 to £30,000 in Essex in the last two years respectively.

The challenge of recruiting and retaining talent is expected to intensify further in the coming months. Employees questioned as part of ADP’s ‘The Workforce View in Europe 2015/16’ report pinpointed to a number of threats to business growth this year; most notably a dearth of fresh talent joining their business (51%), cuts to recruitment budgets (47%) and talent drain to competitors (46%).

As the workplace becomes ever more hi-tech, HR professionals must also keep abreast of the latest technology developments in order to guarantee their colleagues have access to the best possible tools to fulfil their potential. Put simply, highly effective businesses in the present day comprise of highly empowered professionals driven by a positive HR culture.
