Retailers desperately seek fresh talent in national recruitment drive

It's no secret that the rise of online shopping has had a detrimental effect on high streets up and down the country

With a report in The Telegraph suggesting that one in every five pounds is now spent online and that online sales are up by 15% to create an all-time high, it’s clear that consumers are enticed by the simplicity and fuss-free nature of shopping online.

Nevertheless, it is important to maintain the ‘bricks and mortar’ approach in retail too, and now a new initiative has been launched to help breathe new life into the high street and provide much-needed assistance to the retailers of tomorrow. The move launched by Revo aims to give up-and-coming businesses their first step on to the retail ladder by offering free retail spaces from which to launch their business along with expert marketing advice so that their pop-up businesses can hopefully flourish into something a little more permanent that can benefit consumers on the High Street.

High rent and rates are well known to be among of the leading causes of high street closures, especially for small businesses that are struggling to make ends meet. So the offer of rent-free premises – including rent, service charges, any business rates and electricity – will be an invaluable asset to one lucky competition winner. Their lease will last for three months, during which time they will be given other tools and advice in order to try and turn their business into a successful start-up.

Other prize winners associated with the scheme will be given a year’s free membership of the British Independent Retailers Association. This includes access to a retail insurance scheme, free legal advice associated with their business and preferential banking rates. The idea is to equip new retailers with the recruitment knowledge and tools needed to turn an idea into a business – sometimes money is needed; sometimes some helpful advice can also do the trick.

So far the scheme is set to run in a handful of shopping centres across the UK, so if you are an up and coming entrepreneur, retailer or designer with a solid business idea, then this could be the first step on to the retail ladder that you so desperately need. Why not get involved? It could be the start of your business making its mark on the high street.
