The index, created by leading printers, Solopress, ranked the UK’s 30 largest cities, by a number of considerationsJanuary has set the stage for the UK’s job market in 2016, and all signs point to a thriving and prosperous economy which bodes well for businesses and workers alike. The latest data from CV-Library, reveals that job vacancies in January 2016 increased by an impressive 15.8% when compared with January 2015.
The job site reported a record-breaking January with over 144,600 jobs on the site at any given time, up to 220 job applications per second and over 364,500 site visits in one day alone. These records, coupled with latest data revealing strong job growth, paints a rosy picture for the UK job market. As employers increase recruitment in January, their efforts are complemented with growing candidate interest as job applications to vacancies on the site increased by 16.7% in the same period; making January one of the only months in over a year in which applications not only maintained pace with, but actually exceeded, job growth.
While this is good news for the nation as a whole, key cities and sectors celebrated standout job growth in January 2016 when compared with the same month in 2015, the top five include:
Cities
- Liverpool: 38.1% growth
- Cardiff: 25.2% growth
- Edinburgh: 20.3% growth
- Hull: 18.9% growth
- Birmingham: 17.4% growth
Sectors
- Social Care: 44.6% growth
- Education: 34.6% growth
- Legal: 27.4% growth
- Construction: 23.3% growth
- Automotive: 20.1% growth

In addition, job hunters will be pleased to learn that advertised salaries on the site also increased in the same period – job vacancies in January 2016 advertised salaries 1.9% higher than those from January 2015, meaning new hires this year are taking home slightly higher annual salaries.
